Saturday at the Movies 1/17

Okay, this should be an easy one for everyone except MightyMom.
She needs to provide me with a list of movies she's seen so I can pick a question she can answer.

Ahem.

What movie yielded this quote?

A: You look so thin.
E: Really? It's for Paris, I'm on this new diet. Well, I don't eat anything and when I feel like I'm about to faint I eat a cube of cheese. I'm just one stomach flu away from my goal weight.

Saturday at the Movies

Have you figured out yet that my favorite movie genre is scary movies? No? Then this must be your first visit!

And if it is, here's a brief background for you. Due to husband's mobility problems stemming from a stroke at a young age, most of our entertainment is from movies. (With the computer coming in at a close second.) We used to go out to the movies a lot more often, but as we have a satellite dish now, we can watch a whole lot of stuff in the comfort of home: instant replay, temperature control, snacks of choice, comfy seats, and no whisperers/gigglers.

So every Saturday, I post some sort of question on my blog. Someone recently asked me how I choose what to ask. I always choose something from a movie I've seen. I don't go hunting up movie titles and trivia questions just for the heck of it. Many times, when I've seen a movie I really liked or an actor or actress who caught my eye, I go researching it, looking up the story behind the plot, especially if it's based on a true story, or finding out what else the person has been in. I'm also a devoted credit-watcher--always the last one to leave a theater, even if we go with friends.

Usually, when I ask a question, it's about something I've watched or rewatched pretty recently. An exception was the Paul Newman question after he died. I hadn't seen one of his movies in a while, but one of my favorites was Butch Cassidy, so I went looking for quotes from the movie, and there were so many memorable ones to choose from.

SO, this leads me to a new rule. If I don't choose questions from movies I haven't seen, I think it's unfair to the rest of you if someone goes researching the answer on the internet. Anyone can do that, so where's the sport in it? Guesses are great. Watching the movie you think is the answer, or contains the answer, is more fun, and you might be able to come up with a better question, one that stumps me. Obviously there's no way to know if you look it up, but in the interest of good sportsmanship, we're all on the Honor System.

AND, (sneak preview here) since Chillers and Thrillers month officially ends on Friday, I'm going to have Saturday at the Movies on Friday next week: Halloween Day. But, since I will be crazy-busy this next week getting ready for all my little spooksters, I am opening it up to all of you to stump ME.

Pose a question, from some scary movie that you've seen, by midnight Thurs. night, EDT, and I will post them on Friday morning. (Since I will be too busy to watch movies that day, it's a pretty good bet that if I haven't already seen the movie, I won't be able to guess it.) And yes, Libby, DH can play for you, since you don't watch scary movies.

I will post my answers by midnight Fri. night, EDT. Then Saturday, you can all come back and laugh at me for falling flat on my face here, and tell us all the correct answers.

Deal? Deal.

Okey-dokey, now to this week's question. This is a quote from one of my top 10 (as if I could narrow it down to 10) favorite scary movies:
(Edited to add):
As she bares her breasts,
"See anything you like?"

Saturday at the Movies

I guess everyone knows by now that Paul Newman died yesterday. I didn't even know he had cancer, but did anyone? I never heard much about him and Joanne Woodward, except for that amazingly long Hollywood marriage they had, even though she was not his first wife.

And though I was never a major fan of his, he was in a couple of movies I really liked.

This is a quote from one of them:

SHE said: "I'm 26, and I'm single, and a school teacher, and that's the bottom of the pit. And the only excitement I've known is here with me now. I'll go with you, and I won't whine, and I'll sew your socks, and I'll stitch you when you're wounded, and I'll do anything you ask of me except one thing. I won't watch you die. I'll miss that scene if you don't mind."

Movie Trivia Answer

Steph knew this one!

"o/~ Pretty woman, walkin' down the street... o/~"

I remember reading that Nora Ephron had to fight to get that last exchange into the script; the one where Richard Gere asks "What happens after he rescues her?" And Julia Roberts says "She rescues him right back."

Yeah, it's about a prostitute and it's pure fantasy. But if ever two characters needed rescuing....
And that's what I love about this movie.

New, slightly different trivia question on Saturday.

"People don't think miracles happen every day, but THEY DO."

I don't think I know anyone who doesn't like this movie.

Movie Trivia Answer

Every man dies, but not every man really lives. Nice quote, made even more memorable when you consider the circumstances in the movie:

It was "Braveheart" starring Mel Gibson, released in 1995. I thought I'd try something a little more recent lest you all think I haven't seen a movie since the '80s! Pinky, I thought you'd know this one, since you just saw the movie at your getaway several weeks ago.

New trivia question on Saturday!

(Oh, and Bluesky, I got your message about the aid to children program the first time, and have been to the site, but couldn't download a button. I am wary of posters who don't leave an email address or have a blog, so I deleted your second message. You're welcome to post here if you have something to say, but if you're just an automated message in response to the freerice button, you will be blocked

Saturday at the Movies

Okay ladies (because I've only seen a stray gent once),
here is the quote for this week:

Every man dies, but not every man really lives.

I know one friend who will probably get this right off, because I think she has seen this movie within the last 2 months.

Answers on Tuesday, hints on Monday if no correct guesses!

Saturday at the Movies

Ready for another movie quote quiz? Here ya go:

Harry Temple: All right, pop quiz. Airport, gunman with one hostage. He's using her for cover; he's almost to a plane. You're a hundred feet away... Jack?
Jack: Shoot the hostage.

The movie came out in 1994. Anybody recognize the quote?

Answer on Tuesday. Hints before, if no guesses.

Movie Quote answer

Yea! Pinky got it first, though Steph wasn't far behind.

Libby didn't know this one til she googled it, but in the spirit of fair play, didn't post the answer.

Yes, it was "The Princess Bride", one of my absolute favorite movies. I must have watched it a couple dozen times, and I always seem to catch something I missed before. I keep saying I will have to read the book, but never seem to remember when I'm at the library!

Shall we do this again, say on Saturday? Saturday at the movies? I'll warn you now, I haven't seen a lot of the current movies, both because of other interests and the lack of really good movies out there, in my opinion. So you might have to dig back a few years!

Movie Quote Answer

I'm disappointed. Not one of you tried to guess the quote. Are they too hard? Are there no other movie buffs out there?

Well, here's the answer anyway.

As Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith are racing to leave the mother ship (in Independence Day) with the enemy in close pursuit, and the huge port closing fast, Jeff Goldblum says, "Faster! Must go faster!"

In Jurassic Park, when his character has a broken leg and he's lying in the back of the jeep that is being pursued by a Tyranosaurus Rex, he also says "Faster! Must go faster!"

I'd heard that he and Will ad-libbed some of their lines in "Independence Day", and I'm thinking that was probably one of them.

Ready for another quote? Anyone gonna play this round?

Okay, I'll give you an easy one. In what movie does this quote occur?
"Since the invention of the kiss there have been five kisses that were rated the most passionate, the most pure. This one left them all behind. The End."

Answer and New Movie Quote

I'm surprised no one attempted a guess! Don't you people watch movies????

It was Jeff Goldblum to Will Smith in Independence Day, as they are attempting to leave the mother ship after implanting the virus! "Again with the Ooops!"

Now, what phrase did he say to Will Smith that is an exact repetition of one of his lines in Jurassic Park?

Anyone? Anyone?

No cheating!

Answer in a couple of days or so.
