Well this is how it looked earlier today:

I'm glad not to worry about the trees coming down in tornado-force winds or an ice storm, and I'm thrilled the juniper bushes are gone, but it sure makes the yard look bare now. See the gap on the side there?
And that space on the corner?
That's where 2 Bradford Pear trees used to be. We lost them in the remnants of Hurricane Charlie several years ago, and lost large limbs of other Bradfords and a dogwood in an ice storm.
The men were supposed to chip some of it up for mulch for me, but I think they forgot. They did remember to chop some up for firewood for DD, who will be down for Halloween and may carry a trunkload back with her. And if we get a chance to go up to visit her, I'm thinking we'll probably be carrying a bundle up there.
In the meantime, there must be a way I can use this pile for Halloween.
Because now, there's an awful lot of staging to do for just the front yard.
We'll think about how to fill in those blanks later.

Wow you lost a passel of trees pretty quick! I have two trees in my yard...Ichabod and Homer. Both are old and will be pretty scary looking next month. I actually found 'eyes' for Ichabod to put over a place where a branch was taken off years ago. Really freaks the kids out! I leave it on all the time so it has begun to look like part of the tree..hehehe

did you have them grind the stumps? we did that and now there's grass over the spot and you'd never know there was an enormous tree that used to be there.....as for the pile of wood...well 2 things came to mind...1) blody axe and headless scarecrow 2) ever seen Fargo? one word....woodchipper.
(gross I know, but it's all I could think of.)
Glad i found your blog this AM...enjoyed the graveyard pix...plus....my daughter's name is Stephanie...she's an RN and the City Boy and i now live in northwestern NC!! This could be fun!!!

Aw, I hate to see trees go, but it's nice not to have to worry about the weather. You've obviously influenced me, since I was scrolling and thought that pile looked very B00-worthy then saw what you'd typed ;-) Have fun!
I can just see some wonderful plantings in those spaces come spring. Have fun with the decorating - you've got a great canvas *s*
